Tosin Lee, OTR

Founder

Tosin Lee is an occupational therapist and the founder of Melanin Minds Matter. She completed her Bachelors in Health Science and Master’s Degree in Occupational both at the University of Florida. She was born and raised in Florida and moved to Houston in 2015 to pursue her career as an Occupational Therapist., including addressing compounding mental health concerns with her patients.

In 2018, Tosin created Melanin Minds Matter however her passion for mental health started several years earlier due to her own personal experiences and challenges growing up. She understands the relationship between mentally healthy children and academic success, relationship building and personal fulfillment. ​

As a minority woman herself and mother to three black children, she understands that there is a lack of mental health resources for brown and black girls across the board. Tosin has experience with working with the mental health population in specialized units in addition to working with the youth throughout her career. This experience has prepared her to provide a mental health & wellness program that offers a safe space.

 

Jazmyn Ferguson

Chief Executive Officer

Jazmyn Ferguson (she/her/hers) is the Chief Executive Officer at Melanin Minds Matter. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Emory University and her Master of Social Work degree from the University of Southern California. She is currently a PhD Candidate at Texas Tech University, pursuing a degree in Educational Leadership and Policy.

She has served in multiple capacities such as a Recruitment Manager for an education non-profit, Behavioral Youth Counselor at a residential treatment facility, and social worker at an alternative high school. Jazmyn cares deeply about ensuring that youth are involved in the decisions that affect them through empowering and uplifting their voices and serves as the Director of Organizing Strategy at Leadership for Educational Equity. Additionally, she serves as a Board Member at TLT – Tomorrow’s Leaders Today and MEASURE and is a Distinguished Graduate Research Assistant for Texas Tech University’s College of Education, specifically in the department of Educational Psychology, Leadership, and Counseling.

Her purpose is to be the person she wishes she had growing up and aims to pour into the lives of minority girls to support them in recognizing the greatness that already lives within.

Meagan Howard, MS, LPC Chief Operating Officer

Meagan Howard is a Licensed Professional Counselor that is licensed in the state of Texas. She is a graduate of Prairie View A&M University where she obtained her Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology and University of Houston - Clear Lake where she obtained her Masters in Counseling.

Meagan began her counseling career working in an outpatient clinic where she worked with adults diagnosed with Depression, Bipolar Disorder Schizophrenia  and Schizoaffective Disorder while also working PRN as an inpatient therapist at a psychiatric hospital. Upon leaving the outpatient clinic, Meagan began a full time position as a lead therapist at an inpatient hospital where she had the opportunity to work with various age ranges to include children, adolescents and also the newly established geriatric unit. After a year, Meagan became the Lead Therapist at a Geriatric Psychiatric Hospital. While here, Meagan began her private practice, The Lotus Mind, PLLC. Meagan has a genuine passion for helping others and assisting them in discovering their power.

As of August 2019, Meagan took a leap and became a full time entrepreneur and therapist at her private practice where she specializes in treating depression, anxiety and life transitions. Her goal is to assist clients in re-blooming without the weight of their past. 

Dionne Day M.B.A

Chief Financial Officer

Dionne is a seasoned accounting professional with several years of nonprofit leadership experience. Her background includes overseeing operational areas such as Finance, Information Technology, Human Resources and Contract management. She has a track record of improving operating efficiency through updated policies, technology and increase automation. She is known for being a transformational leader who inspires and motivates co-workers and team members.

She holds a Bachelors of Science Degree in Accounting from Chicago State University and a Masters of Business Administration in Finance from Keller Graduate Schedule. She is a Certified Nonprofit Accounting Professional. Dionne is passionate about mental health and wellness as she has supported young girls through various programs for over 20 years. She also has over 10 year of experience working with mental health organizations. She is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, which Laos supports girls and young women.

Dionne is also a proud mom of one daughter who has grown into a successful young woman who actively mentions and advocates for young girls. Like her mother, she knows the importance of supporting our youth.
